Beloved Students:

Congratulations on opening to another New Year. I know many of you have been looking forward to moving into the “fresh slate” perspective of redefining yourselves once again for your continued journey into Wholeness. As most of you know, I heartily support this type of reflection and personal movement. In fact, I would love to see each of you do the same process virtually every morning! Enjoy this exciting movement into 2008, and know that the energy you put forth and experience as you begin the year will significantly determine the energetic aura you experience for the rest of the year.

As is clearly important in beginning any New Year, be mindful both of the general direction you intend to go, as well as the individual steps you take to get there. If one only focuses on the goal, one may miss the blessings that come with the various individual steps, and there may be a tendency to be aware only of how far there yet remains to go. However, if one focuses only on the individual steps along the way, one loses the vision of the bigger picture, which provides the context and motivation that define the field of movement. Both of these levels of viewing are critically important, particularly when living in a time fraught with the tremendous complexities of the current age. Clearly, one needs both ways of perceiving if one is to simultaneously hold both the big picture of the becoming process for Earth and the smaller picture of one’s own life in a given experiential moment.

As many of you are already observing, 2008 promises to be a year that speaks to those who listen at multiple levels. Some of you are already experiencing the paradoxical position of trying to hold that which is dying while giving birth to that which is arising. While this is generally a positive way in which to negotiate the twists and turns of life, it can be a bit confusing, as well. Be very careful of putting all your focus on either end of the spectrum (i.e. either on that which is dying or on that which is being born). Rather, try to see how myriad life cycles are being reflected to you in virtually every experiential moment. Try to see each as a reflection of a continually shifting set of kaleidoscopic images arising from perceptual fluctuations in ongoing awareness expansion.

While I have always advocated keeping one “foot” of your consciousness, so to speak, in the bigger picture of what is unfolding for all levels of being (not just for the ego mind), I think you will find your energetic focus well placed to be particularly cognizant of the big picture in 2008. This is particularly important as you begin the year, since one of the major lessons arising for harvesting at a planetary level is the dissolution of the illusion of duality. Now, it is not likely that any of you will simply get up one morning and suddenly be fully cognizant of seeing through a non-dualistic set of “lenses” as if putting on spiritual glasses. Rather, the “edges” of dualistic perception will begin to go soft, and bit by bit the illusion presents itself for systematic reduction in/by those minds that can perceive it.

All this would appear to present a neat and orderly package of awareness, wouldn’t it? The truth is, however, that it may not play out in quite such an orderly manner after all. Here is where the co-creative abilities of sentient beings come into rather significant play. While I cannot predict at this time how the energetic shifts of the year will fully materialize, I can offer that it might be fairly important to practice as much neutrality as possible, particularly pertaining to how you see what you believe to be going on. Remember, how you perceive apparent arising events and the way in which you project meaning upon them influences manifestation. In fact, such is the very force that generates and alters all the perceptions that follow the initial thought/projection.

Since perception stimulates the awareness that both forms the moment and informs the mind, surely it becomes self-evident that in a time as creatively provocative as the current one, it is important to focus awareness from a vantage point free from fear, helplessness and/ or hopelessness. Indeed, you might best serve yourself and others by learning to cultivate the ability to perceive without designating meaning to that which you perceive.

Now if this sounds vague, just know that we are wading in the stream of creative possibilities here. As you likely know from experience such is a bit different than treading on what we might call the “dry land” of everyday experiencing. For one thing, stream-walking presents certain challenges that walking on dry land does not. In stream-walking, every step must be tested for stability since the floor of the stream is continually shifting. Because the force of moving water is continually shifting the rocks and sand of the stream floor, to walk mid-stream requires a level of mindfulness that may not be needed when walking on dry land.

If you have reservations about this fact, perhaps it is a good time to experiment with stream-walking just to bring home the lesson fully. Pay attention to your relative level of mindfulness as you compare the two types of walking and see what you can extrapolate from the experiment that helps you more fully understand the times in which you live. Would you not agree that the areas now available for immediate – sometimes radical – shifting are many and varied, and that they can arise be-fore you with scarcely a moment’s notice? Would you not further agree that these “moments of arising” are happening at a rate unprecedented for much of your life experiencing heretofore?

Perhaps you might further agree that this style of investigation could be of particular importance to you as you begin 2008. Do pay attention to all the signs and signals that arise into your awareness, for it is likely that they will be many in 2008. But even better, learn to habituate the practice of investigating your perceptions of “reality”, and do so often. Let 2008 be the year you take seriously your need for such investigation, as well as your own ability to accomplish beneficial “research” into the true nature of everything – including your own mind. This is the stuff of real spiritual practice, and you will find the exercise beneficial in so many ways it will totally surprise you.

As you hone your investigatory skills, you will begin to see through the illusion of duality, and you will also begin to have new and fresh appreciation for the power of appearances. You will eventually see, in terms too powerful to be dismissed, how the whole world (and everything you experience within it) does in-deed “come together” in the mind. Again, do not expect to receive such a powerful awakening in one great flash (although if it happens that way, do not discount it). Rather, remain in your “curious observer” mode, and allow the wonder of the planetary process unfolding to impress you with awe and gratitude.

As you walk through the days that lie ahead in 2008, dedicate a portion of your awareness to exploring the mystery that opens before you. Likely, you will be able to note that “eyes have not seen” (that’s your eyes), and “ears have not heard” (your ears, that is) the wonders that reveal themselves to you as you train your senses to attune to what is actually happening, rather than what the ego mind may feel to be right or wrong with what it perceives to be happening.

Please join me in listening to Another Frontier, a lecture I recently recorded for you to celebrate our journey into 2008. Listen with the kind of resting power a co-Creator in training might muster, and allow yourself to reflect on how you have already begun to create 2008 in your mind. After all, that mind is fertile territory for manifestation, and what your mind designs will be the kind of year 2008 appears to be for you. Happy creating!

Your loving teacher,

Djwhal Khul
